Subsidies are available for families who need support, and the program is volunteer-supported. StrongStart (early learning) StrongStart is a free early learning program for children ages 0–5 and their parents/caregivers, offering activities such as gym time, free play, songs, stories, crafts, and snacks. Registration is done by downloading a form, submitting it to the school, and emailing the program contact for additional information. Outdoor Education The school describes an “outstanding” Outdoor Education program offered as a secondary elective, and notes that elementary teachers also explore nature. Farm to School / food literacy The school participates in Farm to School, connecting students with healthy local food and hands-on learning that builds food literacy. Activities described include sourcing local food, cooking and eating local foods through hot lunch and foods courses, and growing a large garden with a greenhouse, fruit trees, composting, and vegetable/herb beds.

School Culture and Expectations

The school emphasizes authentic, connected learning and a healthy environment that nurtures resilience, independence, creativity, and personalized achievement. The district’s bus code of conduct sets expectations for safety and respectful behaviour while riding the bus, including orderly conduct, remaining seated, and prohibitions on disrespectful behaviour, profanity, smoking, and alcohol/drugs.

Transportation, Parking, and Getting Here

For StrongStart families, the school asks visitors to park in the school’s main parking lot; the Family Place is at the north end of the school building. School District 8 offers free student transportation for eligible riders, with annual registration required, bus passes used for boarding/disembarking, and required compliance with the district’s busing safety rules and bus code of conduct. The bus code of conduct includes procedures such as arriving at the stop early, staying seated while the bus is moving, and crossing in front of the bus only on the driver’s signal (never behind the bus).

Enrollment

StrongStart registration is available by downloading the program registration form, emailing it to clerical.crb@sd8.bc.ca (or bringing it to the school office), and then emailing CB.ES.StrongStart@outlook.com to receive facilitator materials and program details.
