About Campsul

Campsul is a school insights platform built to make school research feel less like detective work. We bring together trusted public information-assessment results, student survey signals, enrollment patterns, staffing context, and class environment metrics-and present it in a way families can actually use.

Our goal isn't to judge schools. It's to create a common place where you can monitor key indicators over time, understand what they mean, and build a better shortlist based on fit-not just a single number.

An AnalyticsCity project

Campsul is a project from AnalyticsCity. It's also a practical showcase of something we strongly believe: when public data is cleaned, structured, and explained clearly, it can genuinely improve real-life decisions.

Why we look beyond test scores

When families research schools, test scores are often the loudest (and easiest) signal to find. But a single score cannot capture the full experience of a school.

Our approach is inspired by education scholar Jack Schneider's book Beyond Test Scores: A Better Way to Measure School Quality, which argues for moving past an unproductive fixation on standardized tests and using multiple measures to understand what schools actually do well. View the book on Amazon .

That idea shows up in everything Campsul does: we pair assessment results with student experience signals, enrollment trends, staffing context, and class environment indicators, so you can see strengths, tradeoffs, and fit over time (not just a snapshot ranking).

Our Mission

Give families clean, transparent, and context-rich school information so they can make confident decisions-without turning education into a popularity contest.

We focus on clarity over hype: consistent metrics, clear definitions, and practical guidance.

Our Approach

  • Clarity first. We explain what each metric means-and what it does not mean.
  • Multiple lenses. A school is more than a test score. Academics, wellbeing, culture, and resources all matter.
  • Trends over snapshots. Year-over-year patterns help reveal signal, not noise.
  • Fit is a feature. Commute, programs, language options, and after-school care matter in real family life.
  • Transparency always. When data is missing or suppressed, we show it as ?-we don't invent it.

Methodology (Plain-English)

What we look at

  • Academic learning: assessment performance (and change over time when available)
  • Student experience: official survey signals related to wellbeing and culture
  • School context: enrollment patterns, staffing context, and class environment indicators
  • Programs & fit factors: language of instruction and other available program context
  • Guidance: practical explainers, comparisons, and a growing knowledge base

How metrics are built

We start with official school-level datasets and standardize them so they're comparable and easy to understand. Where a score is shown, it is a summary of a specific metric, not a verdict on a school.

A school can be an excellent fit even if one metric is modest-and a high metric does not guarantee a great experience for every child.

Data handling

We clean and match entities carefully (school IDs, years, and facility types), deduplicate records, and apply automated checks to catch anomalies. Our goal is simple: make the numbers reliable and the meaning clear.

How to Choose a School

  1. Non-negotiables: location, language of instruction, after-school care, transportation
  2. Scan academics: review assessment indicators and look at trends
  3. Read the context: student ratio, enrollment changes, and program fit
  4. Visit and ask: talk to leadership, teachers, and families; observe the culture
  5. Decide on fit: the best school is the one where your child can thrive

Pro move: shortlist 3-5 schools, then compare them side-by-side using your must-have filters.

Data Quality & Sources

  • Source of truth: official provincial/district releases and school-reported public datasets.
  • Cleaning: entity matching, deduplication, consistent IDs and year formats.
  • Audits: automated QA plus manual review when patterns look unusual.
  • Transparency: clear "?" where data is missing, suppressed, or not applicable.
  • Corrections: if something looks off, tell us-we verify and keep a correction log. Accuracy beats speed.

FAQ

What is the difference between Assessment Score and Student Survey Score?

Assessment Score reflects performance on standardized measures. Student Survey Score reflects student-reported experience signals. Use both-neither should be the only deciding factor.

Why is a value shown as "?"

The data wasn't published for that year/grade, was suppressed, or isn't applicable. We don't fill gaps with guesses.

My school is missing or mislabeled.

Send details and we'll investigate. We track corrections and update when sources or mappings change.
