Programs and Services

Student safety / reporting ARES links families and students to SafeArrival (to report absences or late arrivals) and ERASE, an anonymous reporting tool for students. Indigenous education (district program) School District 8 offers an Indigenous/Aboriginal Education program designed to support the success of Indigenous students (First Nations—status and non-status, Métis, and Inuit) who self-identify and choose to participate. Transportation (district busing) SD8 provides student busing and publishes bus routes, bus pass information, and a bus code of conduct. The bus code of conduct outlines expectations for safe, respectful behaviour, seating and rider procedures, and what items can be brought on the bus (e.g., small band instruments in cases, skateboards in approved bags).

School Culture and Expectations

ARES emphasizes developing resilient children who can thrive in any community. The school/district also includes a land acknowledgement recognizing and honouring First Nations territories within SD8. For transportation, SD8’s bus code of conduct sets expectations for safety, respect, and appropriate behaviour on regular routes and extracurricular trips.

Transportation, Parking, and Getting Here

SD8 provides student busing and publishes bus routes, bus pass information, and a bus code of conduct. The bus code of conduct includes practical safety expectations such as arriving at the stop at least five minutes early, remaining seated while the bus is moving, and crossing in front of the bus only on the driver’s signal (crossing behind the bus is not permitted). SD8 notes that out-of-catchment students are not eligible for busing, though busing may be available if space exists on an established route after eligible riders are seated.

Enrollment

SD8 directs families to use the School Locator to find their catchment school, review enrolment/registration processes, complete the district Student Registration Form, and bring the form to the catchment school with required documentation. Families requesting an out-of-catchment placement are directed to complete a Student Transfer Request Form and submit it to their catchment school. SD8 also notes that French Immersion registration is handled through an expression-of-interest process (with families directed to the SD8 French Immersion page for details).
