Student support / social-emotional and family support (Community LINK Program) Nechako partners with Coast Mountains School District and the Kitimat Child Development Centre to offer the Community LINK Program. A school-based Community LINK Worker helps address emotional, behavioral, and social issues that can interfere with a child’s success at school, at home, and in the community. Supports include individualized student/family support, connecting with community agencies, coordinated case management, group programs (e.g., FRIENDS for Life, lunch groups, homework room), and transportation to access resources. Family involvement (Parent Advisory Council / PAC) The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is a parent committee that meets monthly to discuss school activities, events, policies/practices, and fundraising. PAC aims to enhance communication, encourage parent involvement, and support programs and extracurricular needs through fundraising and funding requests.
Nechako’s Code of Conduct emphasizes being safe, responsible, respectful, and kind. The school states that all students—regardless of sex, race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, or gender identity/expression—are entitled to a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment. The school also communicates expectations to families through its Parent Handbook. The school notes that student cell phones can be disruptive and are not acceptable under district policy; violations may lead to disciplinary measures and confiscation.
Student drop-off and pick-up is done by the skateboard parking lot. Families are asked not to use the bus loading zone (buses only) or the teachers’ parking lot for drop-off/pick-up (reserved for children with mobility issues and emergency access). Parking-lot safety expectations include a 15 km/h speed limit, following one-way arrows, and reinforcing pedestrian safety with children. Bus riders are expected to go to the playground when arriving; at day’s end, they must remain in designated waiting areas. Students must be registered with the school district to ride the bus, and alternate-caregiver arrangements require written permission coordinated through the office.
The school website includes registration pages for Kindergarten and for Kindergarten and Grade 1 to 12 registration.
