Fruit and Vegetable Program Penfield Elementary participates in a government-funded fresh fruit and vegetable program to promote healthy choices in schools. Students receive BC-grown produce every two to three weeks, learn where it grows, and are encouraged to try a sample. School Community Garden Penfield staff established the Penfield Community Garden (2022) with grant support and community/parent volunteers. Each classroom participates with its own garden area, connecting students with nature and integrating gardening learning into the school curriculum. Student support / English Language Learning (ELL) & English Skills Development (ESD) Campbell River School District offers ELL and ESD as additional supports during the school year for students who need extra English language development to access the provincial curriculum. Campbell River School District provides courtesy bussing (free of charge) for eligible students who live beyond district walking limits to their nearest public school (K–Grade 3: more than 4 km; Grades 4–12: more than 4.8 km). Families must apply online for a bus pass each school year (except students living on reserve, who are registered through Indigenous Education). Students scan their bus pass when boarding to support safety and family notifications (e.g., late bus alerts). Students should be at the bus stop at least 5 minutes early, and families are responsible for children’s behaviour and safety at bus stops.
