Breakfast program The school notes that its breakfast program supports students’ physical and mental well-being and helps students be attentive and energetic learners. Families who need something nutritious to eat are directed to see the office. Lunch program (School Meal Program) SD70 offers a month-to-month lunch program for students; families participate via a consent/sign-up process managed through the school office. The school notes that contributions/partial payment may be accepted and that students still need to bring a recess snack and drink. Backpack Food Program (weekend support) The Backpack Food Program is available to assist families on weekends, providing a backpack of food each weekend and sometimes additional items such as clothing, toiletries, dental products, books. Families can request a sign-up sheet from the school office, and food is delivered in time for students to take it home by bus on Thursday afternoons.
Maquinna Elementary’s Code of Conduct is based on the belief that all students have the right to learn, and that a safe, caring, and orderly environment is essential. The school’s expectations are organized around the STARS code: Safety, Teamwork, Achieve, Respect, and Share. The code states that discriminatory behavior, bullying/harassment (including cyberbullying), violence or threats, and other behaviors that interfere with learning are unacceptable, and expectations may apply to off-campus/online behaviors that negatively impact the school environment.
