School Culture and Expectations

Galiano Community School’s Code of Conduct emphasizes a safe, caring, and orderly environment grounded in respect, fairness, inclusion, and equity. The school promotes values in the BC Human Rights Code and prohibits discrimination (including based on Indigenous identity, race, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity/expression). Behaviour expectations are taught through Positive Behaviour Support called SOLE: Respect and Care for Self, Others, Learning, and Environment. The school also restricts personal digital devices at school (with limited exceptions for accessibility/accommodation, medical/health needs, or equity to support learning outcomes, and for instructional purposes when appropriate).

Transportation, Parking, and Getting Here

School bus registrations are open annually (the school transportation page notes a May 1–May 31 window for the 2024/25 year, with later registrations treated as courtesy riders). Students are expected to follow respectful and safe bus behaviour, including staying seated, speaking quietly, keeping hands/objects inside the bus, and following the driver’s instructions; bullying and vandalism are prohibited. Families are directed to Transportation FAQs and can contact the Transportation Department at 250-537-5723; riders must register every year. In severe weather, transportation changes/cancellations are posted on the district homepage, school websites, and the app, and routes may be limited to main roads when conditions require.
