Programs and Services

Student support / special education Kootenay Christian Academy’s Student Services Department oversees Special Education and Learning Assistance programs. The team provides individualized support for students with diverse learning needs (including those needing tailored services and those significantly excelling beyond provincial outcomes). The school develops Individual Education Plans (IEPs)/Support Plans with parent participation, and notes the use of technology and school-wide Level B assessments to help identify needs and guide instruction. Literacy support KCA says it uses a literacy program drawing on Orton-Gillingham methodologies, speech therapy, phonics instruction, and whole-language approaches, with lessons tailored to individual learner needs. Math support For students who are struggling in math, KCA notes it uses Nelson Leaps and Bounds, tailoring instruction using multiple data sources (e.g., pre-testing, observations, diagnostic tasks, and IEP accommodations/modifications) and conducting post-testing later in the year. Missions / service learning The school describes an annual Grade 9 mission trip to Ensenada, Mexico (in partnership with Yugo Ministries) where students help build a home for a local family in need, with preparation during the school year that includes fundraising and spiritual preparation.
