Student support / special education The school describes an active Learning Assistance and Special Education department, with a Learning Assistance (LA) program designed to adapt to student needs. Supports mentioned include Teacher Assistants (TAs), one-on-one Special Education lessons outside the classroom when needed, and a Sensory Room with tools to help students with behavioral or attitudinal difficulties feel relaxed and safe. Accessibility / inclusion ECRS has an Accessibility Committee focused on identifying, preventing, and removing barriers for people with disabilities, and the school states it strives to provide an inclusive school experience for all enrolled students. The school notes investments in accessibility such as concrete sidewalks, bathroom upgrades, classroom updates, and renovations to improve mobility and access. Athletics and extracurricular sports Arts and activities The school aims to have a drama production every second year (example given: Aladdian Jr.). Students may also participate in Students’ Council, and the school notes a Yearbook Club that has been inactive in recent years. Field trips Students participate in local day trips (e.g., skating, gymnastics, community forest, fire station, police station, workplaces) and several overnight trips, including Fort St. James (Grades 3–4 every other year) and a Fraser Valley post-secondary tour (Grade 11 annually).
The school frames education as shaped by worldview and states it seeks to integrate God’s Word into what and how students are taught. It says it endeavors to create a school culture where students, staff, parents, and visitors feel “safe, accepted and respected,” grounded in a commitment to live for God’s glory in love and obedience.
Membership in the Canadian Reformed School Association of Smithers is open to members in good standing of specified local Canadian Reformed and United Reformed churches. Children from families outside those churches may be admitted on a case-by-case basis by the school board if parents desire a Biblical education according to the Reformed faith; families are directed to contact the school office for more information.
