Programs and Services

IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) West Bay is an IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme for all students in Kindergarten through Grade 7. The PYP integrates the BC curriculum into an inquiry framework with a global perspective, with a goal of developing global citizens and principled, balanced inquirers. Indigenous Education The school states a goal for Indigenous students to feel at home at West Bay, while all students learn about the Squamish People, the Coast Salish Peoples, and Indigenous peoples and cultures across Turtle Island (North America). Early Inquirers Preschool Early Inquirers Preschool is located within West Bay and is independently owned and operated as a licensed preschool. It offers play-based classes for children ages 2 to 5, 2 to 4 days per week, with inquiry and questioning as cornerstones of learning. Second Language Instruction (French) Students in Kindergarten through Grade 7 receive French instruction, with an emphasis on oral language development (songs, poetry, games, dialogues, and plays). Written French is added in the upper intermediate grades, along with learning about French culture in Canada and around the world. Music / Band Music is taught by a specialist teacher twice a week and is integrated into Units of Inquiry. Beginning and Intermediate Band is offered to Grade 6 and 7 students, with practices held before school and during instructional time. Student support / English Language Learners (ELL) The school links families to the district’s ELL support information and provides district contacts for current ELL programs and services.

Transportation, Parking, and Getting Here

West Vancouver Schools provides student transportation for eligible students living beyond walk limits, intended to ensure safe transportation when students cannot safely walk to the nearest school. Families must submit an online request form for each student to request transportation services. Visitor parking is available at all West Vancouver schools.

Enrollment

Families can apply for admission online through West Vancouver Schools and must attach required documentation for the application to be submitted properly. Only complete applications will be considered for placement or waitlists, and incomplete applications may be removed after two weeks. The district notes it accepts applications from families residing within and outside West Vancouver Schools and that documentation is required to support a BC residence address.
