Environmental School Project

About

Environmental School Project is located at 23125 116 Ave, Maple Ridge, BC V2X 0G8. Since 2008, the project has worked to establish a public K–7 school and learning centre for the Maple Ridge community. The school describes its approach as place-based, imaginative, and ecological education, with experiential learning that engages the mind, body, and heart, grounded in inquiry and inclusion. It also describes itself as a partnership involving community groups, Maple Ridge–Pitt Meadows School District No. 42, and Simon Fraser University.

School Culture and Expectations

The school emphasizes respect for the natural world, oneself, and others, and describes a safe, caring, supportive learning environment with acceptance of all learners, belief systems, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Its code of conduct says the community includes both human learners (students, families, staff, invited educators) and the “more than human world” (Earth, plants, animals). The code of conduct draws from Indigenous wisdom and the Seven Sacred Teachings (Humility, Honesty, Respect, Courage, Wisdom, Truth, Love). Responses to behaviour are described as thoughtful, restorative, and restitutive, with progressive discipline used if concerns continue.
