School Culture and Expectations

FRMS’s Code of Conduct is grounded in the values of the BC Human Rights Code and emphasizes a safe, caring, structured, and inclusive environment free from discrimination. The school teaches and expects students to “SOAR” every day: Safety, Open-mindedness, Accountability, and Respect. The code addresses bullying/cyberbullying, harassment, threats/violence, illegal acts, and other behaviours that disrupt learning or safety, and notes that discipline aims to be preventative and restorative. Personal digital devices are restricted at school except when required for specific instructional purposes or documented needs (e.g., IEP/LSP or medical needs).

Transportation, Parking, and Getting Here

FRMS opens at 8:00 a.m. for drop-off and breakfast, and students who arrive late must check in at the office before going to class. Students are expected to remain on school property during breaks and lunch unless they have written parent/guardian permission; off-site visits (such as to local shops) are not permitted. The school also outlines emergency safety procedures (e.g., hold and secure, shelter in place, lockdown, evacuation) and practices drills throughout the year.

Enrollment

Families register through the district process, with registration dates and deadlines posted on the district registration site. For mid-year registration or after deadlines, families are asked to book an appointment with the registration team, bring completed forms and required paperwork, and note that placement is based on catchment and available space. The registration appointment form allows families to request a translator if needed, and out-of-catchment/transfer applications are only accepted at certain times and conditions (with high-demand placements determined by lottery in some cases).
