Physical Education (including external activities) Claren Academy describes having an on-site exercise room/gym space at its Homer Street campus, along with additional external activities such as swimming, skating, and gymnastics. The school’s fitness advisor also leads lessons that include lacrosse, martial arts, track and field, and ball sports. Athletics and extracurricular sports Technology and digital literacy Claren describes integrating technology as a tool for creativity and critical thinking, with students using tools such as iPads, 3D printers, and electronic art and music materials. The school also teaches digital literacy and digital citizenship and notes that Kindergarten–Grade 2 use iPads, with Chromebooks issued beginning in Grade 3. Music and Art The school lists a Music Specialist Teacher and describes students using electronic art and music materials as part of their learning. Entrepreneurship / authentic learning experiences Claren Market is a months-long, school-wide entrepreneurial project inspired by Shark Tank/Dragon’s Den, where students develop, pitch, prototype, manufacture, market, and sell products in a culminating school-based fair. The school says this project is integrated into ADST, ELA, and Math and is supported at school with lessons, assessments, feedback, and timelines. Literacy and Math (levelled, mastery-based grouping) For foundational literacy and math, Claren describes a levelled program that places students in “just-right” groups regardless of grade, with advancement based on demonstrating mastery. Reporting and assessment Claren Academy’s “Reportfolio” is described as a student-centered reporting system where students regularly upload work and reflections, receive timely feedback, and share learning progress with family members.
