Transportation (school buses) District Transportation Services provides school bus routes across the Central Okanagan and requires families to submit an online transportation application for bus service. Registered riders may be issued a bus pass that must be scanned when boarding/exiting, and guest riders are not permitted. School bus safety Students are expected to follow bus rider rules (for example: arrive about 10 minutes early, remain seated, keep aisles clear, and follow driver directions for safe street crossing). Families are reminded that parent/guardian planning and supervision of safe routes to/from bus stops is important. Online payment tools (fees) Transportation fees (when applicable) are applied to the parent School Cash Online account, with payment in full or monthly payments to be set up within 30 days of fees being assigned. The district also describes a subsidy/fee waiver process for families experiencing financial hardship.
The district asks students to follow school bus rider rules, including arriving at the stop about 10 minutes before pickup, staying seated while the bus is moving, keeping the aisle clear, and not consuming food or beverages (other than a personal water bottle). Students should only cross in front of the bus when red alternating lights are flashing, traffic has stopped, and the driver signals it is safe; students should never cross behind the bus. Families are responsible for helping children plan and practice safe walking routes to/from the bus stop, and the district notes a 30 km/h speed limit in school zones (7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and in playground areas (dawn to dusk), unless otherwise posted.
Central Okanagan Public Schools directs families to enroll by (1) finding their catchment school, (2) watching the enrolment application video tutorial, and (3) completing the district enrolment application. The district lists required documentation (proof of age/citizenship and BC residency/address), and notes that some students (e.g., landed immigrant/permanent resident/work visa/refugee status) must first obtain an enrollment code through the district Welcome Centre.
